Media Interview (A/S Hill) – GZ English TV & Southern Metropolitan Daily

Q: Mr. Hill, thank you so much for taking the Charity Event to support the people in Sichuan province. Ok, how were you feeling when you were doing the Walk-a-thon?

A: Well first of all it’s a great pleasure to get down here to Guangzhou to see our Consulate, and see how everyone is doing, and see the relations that we are building not just in Beijing but also in provincial capitals like Guangzhou. But I think this terrible earthquake, which caused so much suffering, has really been a time when I think everyone needs to work together and try to be closer together. There are so many people who are still suffering in Sichuan province, so many homeless people, so I hope that this small event can contribute in some small way to helping these people. So I was very pleased to get down here and do this today.

Q: I know you don’t have the plan to go there, just heard the news and came here. What makes you to do that?

A: To come here?

Q: To do that?

A: Well I was, I have to go back to Beijing today, and I was in Beijing yesterday, but I heard that we had this event and I wanted to take part in this event. So it was a good opportunity to come down.

Q: So you are walking around Shamian, well call this Shamian, and you can see the culture and also the typical construction in Guangzhou. How are you feeling when you see this?

A: Well this is a very beautiful city, very interesting city, with a very proud history. Sometimes a difficult history but I think a great future ahead of it. So it’s a great pleasure to see this old part of the town but also last night I had the opportunity to drive through some of the new parts of the town which are really very beautiful. So I really really like the city of Guangzhou and look forward to coming here again.

Q: Because of the people…So many people from different countries they all participate in the same event, when you see people join hands together to give the support, when they’re shouting “Go Go China” and “Stay Alive Sichuan” how are you feeling?

A: Oh, it really shows the people of Sichuan who have suffered terribly. I mean this earthquake; it’s really one of the worst earthquakes that has happened in a long time. You know in America we’ve also had some terrible earthquakes. It was almost exactly one hundred years ago, that is in 1906, so a hundred and two years ago, that the San Francisco earthquake took place. And so we know about these, these problems so we have great sympathy for the people and I think it’s a time for everybody to really try to work together to help those people.

Q: Ok, thank you. Thank you so much and enjoy your stay here.

A: Ok, thank you.
