Secretary Locke and Ambassador Huntsman in Guangzhou

The U.S. Consulate Guangzhou welcomes U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke and U.S. Ambassador to China Jon Huntsman to Guangzhou.  Both high-level representatives are visiting to witness regional growth and to attend meetings with key government, business and academic leaders.  Ambassador Huntsman will break ground on our New Consulate Compound to be completed in 2013.    

 

Consul General Brian Goldbeck, Office of Building Operations Deputy Director Lydia Muniz, Ambassador Jon Huntsman, Vice-Governor Wan Qingliang, and Vice-Mayor Cao Jian Liao celebrate the New Consulate Compound Ground-Breaking Ceremony.

   

Ambassador Huntsman speaks at the Guangzhou English Training Center for the Handicapped (GETCH).  The students’ positive attitudes and mastery of English impressed him. He emphasized the importance of cross-cultural understanding by encouraging them to study in the U.S., learn more about American culture and expressed the need for more American students to study Chinese language and culture as well. 

   

Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke spoke with Jinan University students over tea.
