CG Goldbeck Calls in Shanwei and Huizhou
In his first visit to Shanwei, U.S. Consul General Goldbeck paid courtesy calls and dined with local leaders, including discussing people-to-people relations with Mayor Zheng Yanxiong and Vice Mayor Li Xianmou. Mayor Zheng expressed a keen interest in investment development balanced with a quality of life. The CG also met with the Shanwei Secretary General of the Bureau of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation (BOFTEC) and of the Development Research Center (DRC) of the State Council. Local officials hosted CG Goldbeck for a scenic tour of Fengshan Mountain.
In his second visit to Huizhou, CG Goldbeck visited the 55,000 square meter Cree Corporation plant owned by the North Carolina (USA) semiconductor company. Cree is world-famous for its high-brightness white and colored light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and last year provided cost-saving energy efficient LED lighting for new Walmart stores and renovations. The plant was opening in December 2010 in a ceremony attended by U.S. Consulate Guangzhou’s Foreign Commercial Section Deputy Chief Andrew Gately. The facility is Cree’s first chip production plant outside of North America, and also is planned to house future components manufacturing expansion for the corporation. Production at the plant completes LED chip processing of silicon carbide wafers that are manufactured in the USA. The chips made at the Huizhou plant will meet expanding demand in the Chinese market, which has not only created the jobs in Huizhou but also another 100 jobs in the USA. Cree is an example of how existing USA energy efficient, environmentally friendly technology can dramatically lower energy costs producing win-win results for businesses and communities.
These visits form a part of CG Goldbeck’s ongoing mission to visit and deepen relations with every major city in Guangdong, Fujian, Guangxi and Hainan in order to learn more about each other; appreciate each other’s culture; better relations between peoples; and deepen partnerships promoting development, 21st century global leadership and environmental responsibility.
