CG Goldbeck Meets Hainan Governor Luo in Guangzhou

CG Goldbeck met with Hainan Governor Luo Baoming on July 21 in Guangzhou to discuss clean energy, tourism, and the Hawaii-Hainan sister state (province) relationship.

During the lunch meeting, Governor Luo shared his plan to visit Hawaii in late August, at the invitation of Governor Linda Lingle.  While in Hawaii, Luo will deliver the keynote address at the 2010 Asia Pacific Clean Energy Summit and Expo in Honolulu (August 30-September 2).  CG Goldbeck congratulated Governor Luo and Hainan for the success of the Hawaii-Hainan sister relationship, citing it as a good example of collaboration leading to increased academic, scientific, and business exchanges.  CG Goldbeck added his support for ongoing research and business cooperation on clean energy between Hainan and U.S. partners, and expressed interest in exploring additional opportunities for U.S. “green” investment in Hainan.  CG Goldbeck also spoke of his positive impressions of the Hainan Pavilion at the Shanghai EXPO and extended a personal invitation to the Governor to visit the USA Pavilion in the near future.

In addition to the clean energy event, Governor Luo and his delegation will meet with counterparts in Hawaii to explore the possibility of setting up direct flights between Hawaii and Hainan.  The delegation also plans to make stops in Las Vegas and Florida, to learn more about the U.S. experience with convention centers and theme park tourism, respectively.

Governor Luo was accompanied at the lunch meeting by Hainan FAO Director General Wu Shicun and Commerce Department Director General Ye Zhange.  Consulate staff David Schroeder and Andrew Griffin and Foreign Commercial Officer Andrew Gately accompanied CG Goldbeck on the trip.
