Consul General Offers Condolences for Typhoon Damage
Mr. Huang Huahua
Governor of Guangdong Province
Dear Governor Huang:
On behalf of the U.S. Consulate in Guangzhou, I want to echo the expression of sympathy extended last week by U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on behalf of the American people to those affected by the devastation caused by Typhoon Fanapi. I, personally, want to again offer my sincerest sympathies for the loss of life and the terrible damage experienced by the people of western Guangdong Province as a direct result of this terrible tragedy in the cities of Yunfu, Meizhou, Zhaoqing, Yangjiang, Shanwei, Maoming, Chaozhou, and Zhanjiang. We know that the severity of the typhoon that struck Guangdong Province created further economic difficulties, extending your constituents’ hardships. That this second tragedy, following the one in June, occurred so close to Mid-Autumn Festival, a time when families gather in celebration, only further deepens our sadness for the people of Guangdong.
It is the Guangdong people’s proven fortitude and determination in the face of such disasters which makes me believe that they will rise above these struggles to overcome the effects of this latest typhoon. Be assured that we will keep the welfare of the people of Guangdong in our thoughts as they continue to endure these difficult times.
Regards,
Brian L. Goldbeck
Consul General
