China-U.S. Peaceful Uses of Energy Technology Safety Workshop
Officials and experts from both China and the U.S. gathered in Shenzhen from January 20-23 to share information and best practices on risk assessment and safety at nuclear power plants.
The workshop included the participation of China's leading nuclear power plant construction and administration companies as well as nuclear regulatory officials and leading experts on risk-informed safety assessment from both countries. On Saturday, the Chinese hosts arranged a visit for the U.S. delegation to the Daya Bay and Ling Ao nuclear power plants. There are two nuclear reactors active at each of these plants, with two more set to come online at Ling Ao in 2010-11. The meeting was very successful and demonstrated the leadership the U.S. and China exercise in peaceful and safe uses of technology to provide energy.
