U.S. Congressmen visit Shenzhen

A Congressional delegation led by Rep. Hank Johnson met with local leaders and U.S. business representatives to emphasize shared U.S.-China interests in strengthening IPR protection.

Reps. Johnson, Sensenbrenner and Nadler met with local leaders and businessmen to emphasize how better enforcement of intellectual property rights (IPR) benefits both the US and China like “a rising tide that lifts all boats.”  After the delegation toured Luo Hu market to witness the extent of product counterfeiting found there, it met with a group of U.S. businessmen to hear their views and experiences with infringement of intellectual property rights.  Later, the group met with Shenzhen Vice Mayor Zhang Wen and other Shenzhen officials to hear about Shenzhen’s progress in enforcing IPR and encouraging further investment.  In all meetings, the delegation communicated the concerns of American business, and pointed out that as the Chinese side enforces IPR protections, it earns the trust of international business.  This mutual trust is what can enable China to realize its own goal of becoming a leader in technological innovation, achieving a win-win solution.
