DNA Testing
In certain cases, beneficiaries will be unable to establish their claimed biological relationship to the satisfaction of the Consulate. Absent other credible proof of the claimed relationship, genetic testing could provide a reliable means of determining and verifying such a biological relationship.
The Department of State requires that any DNA testing for visa and citizenship purposes must be done by a lab that is accredited by the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB). Names of AABB accredited labs can be found here.
DNA testing procedures:
- First, select a laboratory listed on the AABB website and make the necessary arrangements (including payment) for conducting the genetic test. At your request, the laboratory will send a buccal swab kit to the Consulate. After we receive the testing kit, we will contact you to come to the Consulate for collection of biological samples (buccal samples of the U.S. petitioner, if required, can be collected in the United States by the same U.S. lab or at the U.S. Consulate in Guangzhou);
Biological samples will be taken by a panel physician at the Consulate in Guangzhou at a charge of RMB100 per person; - The samples will be returned to the designated laboratory for analysis;
- The lab must send the testing results directly to the Consulate.
Note: Please advise the laboratory to enclose a waybill from Federal Express (postage prepaid) that has an account number and the account holder’s full name on it when they send the buccal swab kit to the Consulate. A waybill from another company will not be accepted.
Please have the laboratories to send the test kit to the address below:

DNA Results
Once the Consulate receives your DNA results, it will notify you. Although you may have the option to have a copy of your DNA results sent to you, it is important to remember that the Consulate will only accept results sent directly from the lab.
