CG Goldbeck hosted a reception on 8/8, double fortune day, for a “double-purpose.”  The CG thanked local U.S. business leaders and the American Chamber of Commerce in South China for their support of U.S. National Day events in Guangzhou and Haikou.  The CG also welcomed Guangdong General Chamber of Commerce leaders, expressing the hope for mutually beneficial business relationships with their U.S. counterparts and encouraging them to look into new U.S. initiatives to increase investment from China in the U.S.  Topics of discussion ranged from agricultural products to tourism projects to the global economic situation.  CG Goldbeck explained recent developments in the U.S economy, noting that last week's compromise agreement extends the U.S. debt limit to 2013, assures that the United States can and will meet its obligations, and provides a framework for balanced long-term fiscal discipline.
