American Film Series

The U.S. Consulate screens an American film two Friday nights each month. Come out and enjoy the film and the lively discussions afterwards.

Weekly Forum

Beginning February 1, U.S. Consulate General Guangzhou Americans will celebrate Black History month. The Consulate’s celebration of Black History month will include focusing the February Weekly Forums and videos on African Americans. We will discuss African-American history, examine contemporary issues, and explain holidays connected with African-Americans such as Kwanzaa.

Join PAS to Celebrate the 79th Oscar Awards

Join U.S. Consulate General Guangzhou  Americans for a lively discussion of the 79th Oscar Awards.  We will look at who won and who lost, which movies won and which lost, what are the fashion critics staying about who won and lost on the red carpet.   The only requirement is that you are prepared to share your thoughts and opinions on movies, actors and other topics related to the Oscars.

February 1 

  • Video Screening: African American Lives   Part I: Listening to our past

  • Weekly Forum:  Black History Month

February 2 

  • American Film Night
    Host:Thomas Hilleary
    Time: 6:45 pm – 9 pm
    (Summary of the movie:  In the early 1950's, the threat of Communism created an air of paranoia in the United States and exploiting those fears was Senator Joseph McCarthy of Wisconsin. However, CBS reporter Edward R. Murrow and his producer Fred W. Friendly decided to take a stand and challenge McCarthy and expose him for the fear monger he was. However, their actions took a great personal toll on both men, but they stood by their convictions and helped to bring down one of the most controversial senators in American history.)
February 8

  • Weekly Forum:  Black History Month
