First Consul General to Guangzhou Discusses 30 Years of US-China Relations

2009 marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of formal diplomatic relations between the U.S. and People’s Republic of China, and to mark the importance of our bilateral relationship, the Guangzhou Consulate General hosted the first Consul General to Guangzhou, Ambassador Dick Williams.  On November 20, Ambassador Williams spoke to an international relations class at the Guangdong University of Foreign Studies about 30-years of US-China Relations.  Later that day, Ambassador Williams spoke again at the Public Affairs Section’s Weekly Forum to 55 participants about the changes he has witnessed in Guangzhou since his diplomatic assignment in 1979.  On November 21, Ambassador Williams exchanged ideas with Chinese scholars and students who have participated in U.S. exchange programs, and gave interviews to the Southern Metropolitan Daily, Time Weekly, and Guangzhou TV English Channel.
