Evander, The Real Deal, Holyfield Champions American Winning Spirit

On Friday, October 17, U.S. Consulate Guangzhou’s Public Affairs Section hosted former world heavyweight boxing champion, Evander Holyfield.  Mr. Holyfield met with 25 members of the Chinese press and media, fielding a wide array of questions concerning his upbringing, boxing career, business ventures and impressions of China.  The Champ credited his mother with providing the firm foundation to life that enabled not only his successes, but also his ability to roll with the punches when life gets hard.  Mr. Holyfield expressed admiration for China’s accomplishments, attributing her successes to China’s structured and harmonious society.  The press was especially interested in the boxing legend’s impressions of China, and he provided a compelling story of a poor Southern boy who, through hard work and perseverance, has risen to fame without losing touch with his roots.
