Information Resouce Center

The Information Resource Center (IRC) is a reference service providing up-to-date information, to Chinese government officials, academics and journalists as well as U.S. Mission staff, on the United States, its people and its policies. The subject emphasis is on American politics and government, economics and trade, foreign affairs, education and culture.

Staffed by professional documentation and reference specialists and equipped with modern information retrieval technologies such as CD-ROMs, on-line databases and the Internet, the IRC is available to help users on most topics concerning the United States.

The IRC is free and open to Chinese audiences during business hours.

You are welcome to visit the IRC for personal assistance with your research. We recommend you make an appointment in advance.
(We are closed on American and Chinese holidays.)

  • Research/Reference Service: Information provided upon request about most topics concerning the United States via phone calls, fax, mail, e-mail, and visits by appointment.
    You may also contact the IRC with research questions about the United States.
  • Periodical Holdings: The IRC Guangzhou subscribes to 22 periodicals in hard copy, covering a wide range of subject areas.
  • Reference Books & CD-ROMs: A collection of over 300 reference volumes, focused primarily on American studies.
  • Educational Material: Up-to-date materials for students who wish to study in the U.S.
  • Videos Collection: The IRC has a growing collection of DVDs and tapes on a diverse range of topics related to the United States.
  • Alert: Designed to keep the IRC users abreast of issues and concerns in the U.S., ALERT brings to your attention current articles selected by the Information Resource Center at the American Center for Educational Exchange Beijing. We bring it to you for your research or reference purposes. Single copies of individual articles are available to you upon request.
  • Electronic Bulletins: The Electronic Bulletins provide you with up-to-date information on the United States, its people and its policies, and focus on foreign policy, economic & trade, culture and society, democracy and human rights, environment and communication, as well as global issues. The Electronic Bulletins are in the form of "text only" email newsletters and are issued approximately 10 times per month. Click here to subscribe Electronic Bulletins.
  • Electronic Journals. Monthly collections of articles by U.S. and international experts, with focus on U.S. Foreign Policy, Economics, Democracy, Global Issues and U.S. Society and Values.
