NIV Inquiry Form

The U.S. Consulate General Guangzhou Non-Immigrant Visa Section wishes to answer your questions and process your cases in the timeliest manner possible. To help accomplish this goal, the Non-Immigrant Visa Section asks that inquiries about cases that have not yet been interviewed be limited to requests to expedite interviews. We are unable to answer inquiries about cases that have not yet been interviewed. Please use the IV Inquiry page to ask about any K category visa, as they do not fall under the purview of the NIV Section. The page can be found at: http://www.usembassy-china.org.cn/guangzhou/iv/email.html

Expedited Visa Interview Requests

Under certain emergency circumstances, applicants who cannot wait for a normal visa interview appointment may request an expedited appointment.  There is no fee for making an expedited appointment request.

Applicants wishing to make an expedited appointment should first contact the Visa Information Call Center to make a regular interview appointment. The Call Center can be reached toll free within China by dialing 4008-872-333, or the Shanghai local number (021) 3881-4611. Applicants who are not currently in China can dial (86-21) 3881-4611.

Requests for expedited visa interview can be sent in by email or by fax. The applicant must provide their current visa appointment date and time, interview appointment number, information about the traveler(s) (including his or her name(s), date of birth, if they have ever received or requested a visa before) a detailed description of the need for an expedited interview and their contact information. Please include a contact phone number where we can reach the traveler; applicants are contacted if the expedite appointment is granted. Appointments are granted on a space available basis, according to the urgency of the request.

Generally, only requests falling into the following categories will be considered for an expedited interview.

  • Humanitarian request for immediate family members traveling to meet and assist a seriously ill relative or to assist with a family emergency.
  • First time students who have not been refused a visa in the current academic year whose classes will start before their current visa interview date.
  • Business travelers who are attending specific meetings at the written request of an American company, who are not traveling for general purposes or for mixed meeting and pleasure purposes.

The non-immigrant visa unit will contact the traveler to confirm a new interview date within 24 hours if it is possible. Please note that an expedited interview is not a guaranty of a visa issuance. Visa applicants must still meet all the requirements of United States laws and regulations to receive a visa.
Faxed expedite appointment requests should be sent to the Non-Immigrant Visa Unit Chief, at 86-20-3884-4424.

Additionally, the most commonly asked questions are already answered on our website here.

If your inquiry is about a case that has already had an interview you may also direct those inquiries to the Guangzhou NIV Section using the email form below.  Please note that submitting multiple requests about the same case will slow down reply times to your inquiry.

E-mail inquiries submitted using this form are typically replied to within 5-7 business days. Please note that during major Chinese holidays such as Chinese New Year and Chinese National Day the Consulate may require extra time to respond. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
