Passport Fee Changes

January 29, 2008

Beginning February 1, 2008, the Department of State will institute a new fee schedule for passport services. Fees are being adjusted to cover the cost of providing efficient and secure passport services including infrastructure, technology, and staff. A chart regarding the fee changes will be available on travel.state.gov.

The passport execution fee collected by passport acceptance centers and U.S. consular sections abroad is being reduced from $30 to $25. The passport application fee is being raised for both minors and adults.

The new passport book application fee for adults will be $75. For first-time applicants for a passport book the total fee will be $100($75 application fee plus $25 execution fee). For adult applicants eligible to renew a passport using Form DS-82, the total fee will be $75.

The new passport book application fee for a minor under the age of 16 will be $60. Since all minors under the age of 16 must apply in person, the total fee for a passport book for a minor under the age of 16 will be $85($60 passport application fee plus $25 execution fee).

Minors age 16 and 17 are eligible to receive a 10-year passport.  The passport book fee for these individuals is $100 ($75 application fee plus $25 execution fee).
