China(Zhongshan) International Games and Amusement Fair 2009

 

USPTO Guangzhou Office attended the opening ceremony of China(Zhongshan) International Games and Amusement Fair 2009 in Zhongshan on 11/5/09. The visit was to enhance the commitment with Zhongshan Government.  People in the picture (left to right): Yaocheng Du(杜耀成), Deputy Director General of Zhonshan Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Bureau and Zhongshan Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Bureau, and Conrad Wong, Intellectual Property Officer of USPTO Guangzhou Office.  

  

Nov 4: Consul General Goldbeck and Foreign Commercial Service and other officers visited Wal-Mart in Nanning to see the variety of American products available.  The CG thought these Washington State apples looked delicious!

   

Consul General Goldbeck inaugurates 9th year of Executive MBA Program

Oct 6: Consul General Goldbeck inaugurates the 9th year of the China Executive MBA (CHEMBA) Program at Zhongshan University.  The cooperative venture with the University of Minnesota is the #1-ranked EMBA program in China.

Sep 25: On his first official trip to the island province, Consul General Goldbeck met with senior Hainan Provincial and Sanya Municipal Government officials, as well as leaders of Haikou’s pillar industries and innovators in renewable energy.

 

   

U.S. Commercial Service and GreatChina hold college fair at American International School of Guangzhou

On Friday, September 18th, Commercial Officer Andrew Gately (far back far right) and Commercial Specialist Eileen Bai (second on left) of the US Commercial Service partnered with U.S. higher education promoter, GreatChina, to hold a college fair at the American International School of Guangzhou.  High school students and parents were given the opportunity to have conversations with representatives from U.S. colleges.  The following eight American schools had representatives at the event: Indiana State University, Northern Arizona University, Lorain County Community College, Luther College, Upper Iowa University, University of the Incarnate Word, Bowling Green State University, and Leeward Community College. 

 

   

Teachers’ Day Alumni Cruise on the Pearl River

On September 10, Consul General Goldbeck hosted a cruise and dinner for 30 of our Chinese friends, most of whom are teachers who have recently attended American exchange programs.  After dinner, the CG spoke with local media about life in Guangzhou and in America.

  

US Patent and Trade Office and FCS Guangzhou at the Shunde Expo, Foshan

On September 4, Conrad Wong(far left), Jodie Xie, Jeffrey Scholl, Ada Yang (third from right) and Barry Zhang (not pictured) of USPTO Guangzhou and U.S. Foreign Commercial Service Guangzhou attended the opening ceremony of the 2nd Shunde International Industry Design Expo.  The trip strengthened exchanges on innovation and IPR protection between USPTO Guangzhou and Shunde.

   

American Wine and Chinese Food: The Perfect Complements

About 30 local food/wine media representatives and wine sellers sampled seven California wines at a wine pairing dinner sponsored by the Consulate's Agricultural Trade Office at the Ritz Carlton Hotel on September 4.  Hong Kong-based wine expert Simon Tam (center right) offered insights on how to match wine with food.    Consul General Goldbeck (center left) also attended.

 

  

Consul General Goldbeck meets with Guangzhou Chamber of Commerce Chair Su

Consul General Brian L. Goldbeck meets with Guangzhou Chamber of Commerce Chair Su Zhigang to discuss opportunities for cooperation between U.S. and Guangzhou firms.  Mr. Su is also chair of Chime-Long Group, south China’s largest leisure and entertainment company.

 

  

FCS Guangzhou visits Huawei Technologies in Shenzhen

 

On August 28, Andrew Gately (middle), Sophie Xiao (far right) and Jeff Scholl of the U.S. Foreign Commercial Service Guangzhou visited Huawei Telecommunications in Shenzhen.  Their tours of several Huawei facilities highlighted FCS’s strong relationship with China's largest telecommunication company.

 

 

Consul General Barbecue Celebrates US-China Relations Essay Winner

 

(August 27)

After concluding a popular contest that invited South China students to write letters to President Obama, Consul General Goldbeck hosted an American barbecue for the contest’s winner – Huang Jingqi, a Junior from Zhongshan University (center of picture) - as well as her professors, classmates and State Department student alumni.
