Important Note

July 31, 2014:  The U.S. Embassy in Beijing and consulates in Chengdu, Guangzhou, Shanghai, and Shenyang will have an administrative closure for non-immigrant visa applicants on Friday, August 1. Immigrant visa appointments at the consulate in Guangzhou are not impacted.

If you are affected by these closures, you are required to reschedule your existing non-immigrant visa appointment. Your appointment can be rescheduled by logging on to your appointment profile and selecting new dates and times. There is no need to contact the call center or customer support.

We regret the inconvenience caused.

Important Notice: The U.S. Department of State is currently experiencing technical problems with its visa system, which are affecting global operations. This issue is worldwide and is not specific to any particular country or visa category. We recognize and deeply regret the inconvenience to travelers. We are doing everything possible to return passports with visas as soon as we are able to complete processing. We regret that we are currently unable to predict how long the delay will be.

Jul 29, 2014 - The Department of State Bureau of Consular Affairs is currently experiencing technical problems with our visa system. We are operating at a significantly reduced capacity and will be until we clear the document backlog.

This issue is worldwide and is not specific to any particular country, citizenship document, or visa category.

We are working urgently to correct the problem and expect our system to be fully operational again soon. We will be posting updates to Travel.State.Gov as more information becomes available.
 

Important Note:  Mobile phones, laptop computers, and other electronic devices, as well as large handbags/backpacks are NOT permitted in the U.S. Consulate and may not be checked with U.S. Consulate security guards.  Small handbags and bags for baby items (baby diapers, bottle, formula, etc.) are permitted.  Please make provisions for any personal belongings not permitted in the U.S. Consulate before your appointment.  Thank you for your compliance.
