U.S. Ambassador attends Symposium in Hainan
U.S. Ambassador to China Jon Huntsman visited Sanya in Hainan province January 19-20. Ambassador Huntsman attended and addressed a symposium comparing U.S. and China governance co-hosted by the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars’ Kissinger Institute on China and the U.S. and China’s Counselors’ Office of the State Council. The conference was co-chaired by former U.S. Ambassador to China J. Stapleton Roy, the Kissinger China-U.S. Institute’s Director, and Mr. Chen Jinyu, COSC Chairman and former Deputy Secretary General of the State Council.
Ambassador Huntsman also met with Hainan officials who trained at the University of Utah. The Ambassador was the Governor of Utah when the Hainan officials attended the public administration training program. The Ambassador also visited the Nanshan Buddhist Cultural Park before departing for Xiamen. He was accompanied on this visit by his wife, Mary Kaye Huntsman, U.S. Consul General to Guangzhou Brian L. Goldbeck, Consulate General Guangzhou Political Officer Kurt Aufderheide and Economic and Political Section Senior Staff Member Ronald Feng.
