U.S.-China Forum on Sustainable Solutions to E-Waste Challenge

Over 60 academics, government officials, and business representatives gathered in Guangzhou from August 1-3 to discuss U.S.-China collaboration towards developing sustainable practices for electronic waste collection and processing.

Improper disposal of end-of-life electronic goods such as TVs, computers, and refrigerators represents a significant challenge to environmental protection efforts in both the United States and China.  Seeking to address this challenge, experts from both countries gathered to discuss best practices in e-waste collection and recycling, as well as the latest research in green product design.  The productive exchange allowed key relationships to be formed that will lay the foundation for future business and research cooperation on e-waste.  This cooperation is especially important as both countries work towards national legislation to improve e-waste management.

The forum was supported by a grant from the U.S. National Science Foundation, and jointly organized by the China National Electric Apparatus Research Institute (CEI) and the Georgia Institute of Technology.
