U.S.-China Joint Workshop on Environmental Pollution and Cancer Held in Guangzhou January 5-8
Over fifty top environment and health experts from the U.S. and China gathered this week in Guangzhou for the first Joint Workshop on Environmental Pollution and Cancer co-hosted by the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the U.S. National Institutes of Health. Participants shared results from studies analyzing links between pollution and health before turning to a discussion that focused on environmental factors that increase risks of lung cancer and childhood leukemia. Acknowledging that cancer is a leading cause of death in China and the U.S., researchers called for greater research collaboration as a means of strengthening cancer prevention and control efforts in both countries.
