U.S. Consul General Goldbeck Arrives in Guangzhou

Mr. Brian L. Goldbeck, the new U.S. Consul General for Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian, and Hainan provinces, arrived in Guangzhou with his family on Monday July 27, to begin his three-year assignment. During the next few weeks, Mr. Goldbeck will meet with key government, business and community leaders to introduce himself and to hear their views about the issues and events shaping the region. He released the following arrival statement:

The year after the U.S. and China established diplomatic relations in 1979, I paid my first visit to China, making a short few days trip to Guangzhou.  In the years since, China, and especially southern China, has been transformed economically.  I look forward in the coming months to visiting the four provinces covered by the U.S. Consulate General Guangzhou to meet with political, economic, and social leaders as well as the people of this region to promote bilateral understanding along with trade and investment.  The U.S. and China share many mutual interests and concerns, such as intellectual property protection, human trafficking, and pandemic disease prevention, to name just a few.  This year we are celebrating our thirtieth year of diplomatic relations.  Clearly, closer bilateral cooperation is essential now and for the future.
