V Visa Processing in Guangzhou
Visa applicants eligible for V visas began receiving letters from the National Visa Center in Spring 2001. Spouses and minor children of legal permanent residents who are the beneficiaries of F2A second preference immigrant Visa petitions filed with the CIS before December 21, 2000 are generally eligible. Applicants must have been waiting more than three years for an immigrant visa to apply for a V visa.
To apply for a V visa in Guangzhou, applicants must provide the following documents to this office by mail:
- Copy of CIS approval notice (form I-797) showing the name, category and priority date. (Note: this document is not required, but is helpful if available.)
- A copy of applicant's ID card.
- Copy of birth certificate of the children (if applicable).
- Mailing address in Chinese characters and the postal code.
The applicant should mail these documents to the U.S. Consulate Guangzhou.
The Immigrant Visa Unit will begin processing and adjudication after an application has been received. Once a case has been set up, the applicant will receive an information packet in the mail. The packet instructs the applicant what documents need to be prepared, where to pay the RMB830.00 application fee, where to obtain a medical examination, and how to complete visa processing.
