Mark Curry will discuss how philanthropic industrialist J. Irwin Miller helped to mold Columbus, Indiana into one of the top art and architectural meccas in the United States, which in turn fostered a multi-billion dollar economy that continues to grow. Miller believed that civic improvements, created by some of the world's greatest designers, would produce an admirable quality of life and thereby attract high-caliber workers and citizens. True to his vision, the small town of Columbus today is not only a design showcase, it also boasts a vibrant culture of achievement in a wide range of human endeavor, including industry, arts, sports, acting and politics.
